Jop Spoelstra

My first action as the mayor of my city is…to fully prioritizing active, public and micro-mobility over private vehicles in the Rotterdam city centre mobility plans. Not only will this have concrete benefits for well-known policy goals as accessibility and air quality, but it will also improve a much overlooked benefit (and known issue) within Rotterdam: Equality for all layers of the Rotterdam community to reap the opportunities that the city and region provides, as I am a strong supporter of the famous quote: ‘A developed country is not a place where the poor have cars. It’s where the rich use public transportation’.
